My name is Shauna Sweeney and I’m a singer, songwriter, guitar player and percussionist. 🎀🎢🎸πŸ₯πŸ’–πŸ”₯πŸ€—

I grew up in a nice little white picket fence town in Connecticut, where I  wrote my first song at age 6 – an upbeat tune called “A Long Time Ago”. I was lucky to attend an excellent public elementary school with a wonderful arts program, where I was encouraged to write and record songs.

When I was 14, my family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where I began attending concerts produced by the Broward Folk Club, and open mic nights at the Chocolate Moose Music Cafe. I was blown away by some of the songwriters I heard there. I received an Ibanez guitar for my 15th birthday, learned my first guitar chords from friends, and by 16, I had joined a dedicated local band called Never Enough. We recorded an EP together but then grew apart.

At 17, I left Florida and my musical ambitions behind and attended Emerson University in Boston as a communications major, but bounced around in the following years from there to Orlando to Chicago and felt a bit lost. It was at an open mic night in Chicago that I realized music was what I needed back in my life. I moved back to South Florida, started singing with friends’ bands and soon I was making my living performing full-time.

Since then I’ve performed over 2,000 shows across the Eastern U.S., Canada, the Bahamas, and the U.S. Naval base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I’ve played at festivals and amphitheaters, sharing venues with Dave Matthews Band, Train, 10,000 Maniacs, Gin Blossoms, the Backstreet Boys and Matt Nathanson. I’ve collaborated with Grammy-winning musicians to produce and release 3 original EPs, in 2005, 2006 and 2010, and a full-length album, Happy Thank You Yes More Please, in June of 2020. My songs have been featured by USA Today, Kotaku.com and the Miami Sun Sentinel. I’ve performed at events for the Miami Dolphins, Miami Marlins, Tom’s Shoes, the PGA Tour and the Brothers in Arms Foundation. Each of these shows and experiences has been a unique and special honor. The best part has been getting to do something I love, while spending time with musicians and music-lovers.

In 2021, I relocated with my husband and our kitties Ellie and Penny to Denver, Colorado, where we’ve spent the last year exploring the Rocky Mountains and making new friends. And we adopted a 7-year-old lab mix, named Abby Dog. πŸ’–

The last two years have put many things in perspective. Most of all, how grateful I am to make music, collaborate with people I admire, organize music and arts events, and encourage others to pursue their own passions and imaginations.
