2016 Highlights

Hi all!

Now that 2017 is well under way and full steam ahead with some exciting new projects, I just want to take a minute to reflect on some of my favorite musical happenings of 2016. Here are a few I thought I’d share:

My song “Destination Me”, a co-write with songwriter/activist R. Mack Harrell, received an Honorable Mention in the 33rd Annual Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, Pop category!! Mack and I are very honored. “Destination Me” also received Honorable Mention at the Smoky Mountain Songwriter Festival!! The song is about the painful but important journey to become your truest self. The song hasn’t been officially released yet – it is currently being shopped around to other artists who may want to sing it. It feels great that so far it’s being well-received!!

Mack and I also wrote a song for the Harvest Drive of Florida, an amazing organization that collects food, clothing, toys and more to give to families in need in Broward County. It was a fantastic process, learning about the organization and the people who started it over 24 years ago – they just wanted to help put food on the table for a few folks, and now they help THOUSANDS of people every year! Wow! We are currently working on a video for them to accompany the song – I’ll definitely be posting it when it’s done. In the mean time, feel free to check out their website and make a donation if you can.

One more highlight – I was honored to perform a few songs at the 26th Annual Southern Comfort Conference – the “largest assembly of transgender, researchers, educators, therapists, doctors, and LGBT organizations in the world.” At a time when transgender people are still facing so much scrutiny and discrimination,  I was moved by the incredible graciousness, courage and positivity of all the women and men I met at the event.  Thanks so much for inviting me!!!

These were just a few of 2016’s special moments, there were many others that I am similarly grateful for. I want to give a huge “thank you” to the people I worked with – the musicians, writers, sound engineers, booking agents, web designers, venue owners and all their fantastic staff for a great year.

2017 is shaping up to be pretty excellent as well…more updates soon!! Thanks for being part of the journey.  🙂
